I guess my blog is turning weekly blog into a monthly blog. These are my June paintings. This first one is a studio Painting of Long's. You may remember I did a Plein air of Long's last month.

Last weekend I went to New Mexico to see my Aunt. I stopped on the way to paint this.

This is Aunt Joyce's back yard. It is one of my favorite paintings of the month.

Last Friday Plein Air Artists Colorado hosted a paint out at East Boulder rec. Center. I was able to get a couple done.

Yesterday I drove up above Tolland and got this great view of James Peak.

Painting along Trail Ridge Rd at 12,000 ft.

 Today Sharon and I took a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park.We decided to paint up near about as high as you can go at about 12,000 ft. It was a little cool and windy, but for where we were it was beautiful. This painting is 11x14 and the second of the day. I did an 8x10 warm up painting first seen below this one. They both turned out equally as well. There were lots of people out many of which were very interested in our painting, so we got to talk with some very nice folks.

Monday evening I went up to NCAR  and found soom very interesting light on the flat irons for this 8x10.

 Thur. late afternoon I found some more very cool light  off of Cherry Vale rd. The sun was in and out in and out. and made the spring leaves really glow at times. There I came up with this 8x10

After a two week break, we are back on the Weds. night figure painting. This painting is 16x20

Figure and Landscapes

 I got out painting a bit today. It was overcast with moments of sunshine. I never feel like I do very well on days like this. 1st, here is what I did in figure this week. I feel it turned out pretty good so I'm putting it at the top of the page.

This was done mid morning this morning out at Sawhill Ponds.

This was done about 7:30ish this morning. It was an experiment to see if I could catch that fleeting morning moment with just a little bit of fog. I worked on it more when I got home. Almost..... See Longs Peak in the back.

Thanks Giving Weekend

I Love Days off for holidays. I was able to get out quite a bit the last few days. It has been so frustrating this time of year now that it's dark when I get off of work. I really relish the daylight hours on these days off. This I painted Weds. after noon. I snuck out work to get an early start to the weekend and headed up Boulder Canyon. This is fairly close to Nederland.

This is from Thanks Giving morning. I painted this from inside my car up on the peak to peak just across from the Kelly Dal camping area. It was blowing pretty hard so painting out side was out of the question. The lake was mostly frozen. (just in case you couldn't tell from the painting.

 Yesterday, Debbie and I rode our bikes north out of Hygien. Before we started I was able to paint this of Longs and Meeker as viewed from Hygien. I only had about an hour and 15. I still think it turned out OK.

 

 This morming I took the dog over to Walker Ranch where I painted this looking down into Eldorado Canyon.

  This afternoon when I got home I saw this beautiful light in some trees on our property. S o I attempted to paint them. The sun was down in about an hour, so it was fun trying to remember the way it looked with the light.

three pleinairs in a this weekend

I painted this Sunday morning. My friends Jim and Sharon were there painting with me. We found this wonderful secluded spot in a field south east of boulder where I painted these first two paintings. This is a view looking south. I chose it for the nice shadow shapes in the trees.

This may be my favorite plain air I've done so far. The light orange and red shapes to the right of the trees are buildings in the CU campus. If you look hard you can see Longs Peak in the back ground.  I am pleased with the brush strokes the values and the colors. I don't mean to blow my own horn, but I feel like I am really starting to get somewhere with this painting. 

I painted this from our drive way. I wanted practice painting trees and the distance of the things behind them and through their branches. Again I am quite pleased with how this turned out.
