new figure drawing

This is the figure drawing from this past week. Michelle rigged up a light from above. This made for some nice shadows.

Contrapposto and still lifes

I kind of lost a little momentum on my painting this week. Still, I think I turned out a couple of good ones.
The candle in a jar I thought would make an interesting challenge. It turned out quite well and only took an hour. Our model on Weds. was truly amazing. She was able to stand so still, that is was like drawing a statue.

This weeks post

Here is this weeks post. This is of course my drawing from this weeks figure modeling session. I'm not too happy with the color of the paper, but I still think it turned out pretty good.
I did the next two from earlier figure drawings.

This is from one of my many desert photos. I wanted to see if painting from a photo would be any different after all of the paintings from life I've done.
I think this is the best painting of the week. Can you see what it is?

Male contrapposto figure drawing and this weeks fast paintings

I don't feel too talkative this week, so I'll let these images speak for them selves.

This weeks post

Here is this weeks figure drawing. I usually try to not say anything negative in these posts, but this this gals feet and ankles are too big. I'd love to fix them, but I am afraid if I try I will ruin the drawing. Oh well, maybe next time.

These are the fast paintings from this week. I've been going over an hour a bit, but it actually makes it more fun to see a painting that's a bit more finished.

This weeks Figure drawing and 6x8 quick paintings

This drawing is from last Weds. Figure drawing session. This man was quite large. This was also the first time I've drawn with three colors. Black, red and white.

This is my grandfather's first muzzle loader with a mirror.
I sketched this one one evening and painted in the colors the next. I love the look of the big cotton woods without their leaves, however they are quite challenging to paint. I think I am getting closer with this one.
I wish I had painted this from life, but it is a copy from a book I am working from by Kevin MacPherson.
These are some miniature orchids that we have been enjoying since this summer. It has been nice to see them bloom and bloom.
This is the view north from the bottom of our canyon.
I liked the effect of the shadows in the snow.
Sea shells in a small bowl.
                                                         this one needs no discription.
This is the second time I've painted this scene from Walker ranch. I have a feeling I will be returning to this spot. I hope I improve so this will turn out better and better every time I paint it.

Figure drawing and 1 hour oil paintings

The Weds. night figure drawing group started up again this past week. Here is what came out of that evening for me. It was good to be back.

The book I am reading suggest doing a one hour painting every day for three months as a way to improve. So, here are some from the first week of this exercise. I think most of these went over an hour. It is so hard for me to put the brush down.
