a pile of paintings

Well, I keep thinking I am going to get back into the swing of blogging, and before I know it months have passes. Here are is pile of paintings I have completed in the past couple of months. I hope you enjoy. And I will continue to try and pick up the pace.

I took advantage of the beautiful weather this week to do some Plein Air painting.

I went to Ward where there are many beautiful buildings with lots of character.

 That after noon I cruised up to Brainard lake. This is actually Red Rock lake. What a beautiful spot.

It was so nice, I went back the next day. It usually is blowing 100 miles an hour and cold. This was a great treat to have such nice weather this time of year.

Wends. I decided to draw for a change.

Another week more pictures

Tues. I stayed after work and painted this nice barn. 12x16.

 We've been working on this old farm house north of Boulder.

 Weds. I mixed it up with some drawing and finished with a quick mono chromatic portrait painting.

It rained all day today, so I painted in my studio. I think I am getting a little more comfortable painting from photographs. This one is from a photo I took while in Ohio a few years ago. It is of a bike path on the north side of Westerville.

I took this picture on my way home from work a couple of weeks ago. It is of Hatstack mountain north of Boulder. The light was the sort of light I really want to capture. The problem is, it only lasts for a few moments, so plein air painting it, is challenging. I tried to paint the colors and values from memory, knowing that the camera lies.

Today Lilly came to Classical Art Academy to pose for a few of us. This is what I came up with.

 This past week I go interested in attempting to paint candle light. It was a great exercise in getting the values just right.

This of course is from Weds. night. I didn't have the energy to push this one very far Weds. night, so I just kind of let it be a rough sketch.
