August September

Here we are it's almost the middle of September, and I still haven't done my blog post.A lot has been going on and I am quite tired. Here is the First painting of this post. Painted in Louiseville, Colorado. The red barn is a well known landmark for the locals. This painting can be seen at Mary Williams Fine Art, which is now representing me.
I painted this just off of Cherry Vale rd. The blue in the back is actually the base of the foot hills. I do love the late afternoon light.
One of those late afternoons I headed up to NCAR where I painted this. Normally I would steer away from such a cliche' image, but the light was just too tempting.
This is an aspen I found in the neighborhood.
The light for this one lasted just a few minutes. But I did my best to remember. It was done at the bottom of Coal Creek Canyon.
I cruised up to Brainard Lake one morning, hiked up to Long Lake to paint these next two.

To help promote Boulder's open Studios, of which I am participating this year, I did a demo at Chautauqua at the ranger's cottage. In preparation I painted this a week in advance.
This is from the demo.
And this is the painting from the demo.
One evening I headed up Caribou  rd. above Nederland to paint this.
This one was done from just inside the building where I have my studio. I believe the plant is called Rabbit Brush.
Last Sunday Debbie road bicycle up Mt Evans from Idaho Springs. I dropped her off at the bottom and drove up to tree line to paint this. Then I rode the rest of the way to the 14000' summit with her.
This is Coal Creek. It is pretty much down to a trickle.
Yesterday I joined PAAC for one of their paint outs. This one was held at Meininger's Lodge in Bailey Colorado. I was really loving the light on these funky old mountain cabins. I painted three yesterday. Today I am whipped!

Here are the portraits and figures from this past month.

Until next time....

12-14-14

I took advantage of the beautiful weather this week to do some Plein Air painting.
I went to Ward where there are many beautiful buildings with lots of character.
That after noon I cruised up to Brainard lake. This is actually Red Rock lake. What a beautiful spot.

It was so nice, I went back the next day. It usually is blowing 100 miles an hour and cold. This was a great treat to have such nice weather this time of year.

Wends. I decided to draw for a change.

From a photo I took a few years ago in Ohio.

Just north of Hygiene.

finally some good plein air painting weather

This week was beautiful weather wise. I got a lot of plein air painting done. If I had to choose a favorite, it would have to be this 12x 16 painting I made Friday evening over at Walker Ranch looking west. It was partly cloudy, so the sun was doing a song and dance with light and shadow on the mountains. I was able to stick to one moment in time when the sun was shinning off the snow just right.

Today I got up early and drove to Brainard Lake and made the 2and 1/2 half mile walk from the winter gate to Brainard Lake proper where I painted these two. The first is 8x10 and the second 11x14.
I was surprised, it actually got quite crowded. People were talking to me, commenting on my paintings. The kids seem to enjoy it the most. Bicycles were zipping by. I had to be careful not to back up suddenly to look at my work with out looking down the road for on coming cyclists first. The weather was fabulous. Not much wind, plenty of sunshine and warm temps.

Earlier this week, I stopped at the bottom of Coal Creek Canyon to get some painting done. This 10x8 is my second attempt at this scene. The first didn't turn out at all.

This 10x8 is another from Walker Ranch
