plein air paintings and figure drawing

The weather was incredible this week, so I took advantage and painted out doors as much as I could.

This is the view from our house.

It was really windy today so I lashed my easel down with some tent stakes and tied my pallet to the easel and went for it. I put this painting down to start another and the wind blew a bunch of dirt into the wet paint. I think it made it look better.

If you look close, this also has dirt in the paint. I have to figure out a way to protect my finished field studies until I get back to the car.
This weeks figure drawing was a lesson in foreshortening.

Figure Drawing and painting for the week

It seemed like a good day to paint out side yesterday, but when I got to my spot, the wind picked up. I tried to paint anyway. I had to hold on to the easel while I worked. At one point the wind ripped the canvas off my board. The wind kept getting stronger and stronger. Finally  It blew my pallet over and when I was picking that up the easel went over. Still I tried to put some kind of finish to the painting. When I got home I repainted the scene from a photo and the colors I came up with in the original. This is the end result.

Nude seated female figure drawing

This is my drawing from the Wed night figure drawing session. It was the last session  of the year. I struggled a  bit in the beginning, but pulled it together and finished a nice drawing. I am glad because I wanted to end the year on a good note.
