This is a scene I painted from out my studio window. It was raining Friday, so it seemed like a good way to get in some practice.
This is a copy of a painting I've been dragging around with me for 25 plus years. I don't know where I got it, but have always had it hanging in my studio and really like it.

This morning Sharon and I went to Eldorado Canyon. This is my first. The cliffs were glowing from the reflected light from the sunlit cliffs on the north side of the canyon.
Then I painted a monochromatic of some falling water.

Lupines

Today Sharon and I went up to Left hand reservoir.  I've been thinking about painting some wildflowers, and finally got my chance today. I used a grey canvas and started directly into the color. This is a bit different than I am use to working, but it still turned out pretty good.

This is my second painting this morning. I didn't like it when I finished, but it is looking pretty good to me now.

Here is Sharon getting started. We really had a beautiful place to paint today.

Earlier in the week, I painted this from an old figure drawing. I wanted to get some practice painting in this method of straight Burnt Umber in the shadows and burnt umber and white on the lit side. All of this is done on a grey canvas.
this is from Weds. night. I used the same technique as described above with some color added on the pillow and robe just for fun.

Friday, I painted this from a black and white photo my uncle took of me when I was just a little shaver.  I tried using some suggestions my friend Jim gave me, using cool colors for shapes going away from me and warm colors on the shapes coming toward me. I used straight Yellow ocher, cad red, Alizerian Crimson and Ultramarine blue.

This is another mono chromatic painting of a good friend of mine, Dave.

partly cloudy morning

This morning Sharon and I went to a trail just south of Boulder, where we had a good view of the flat irons and Eldorado Canyon.

It was partly cloudy which made for challenging painting. On this one I tried to capture the sun shinning on the cliffs above Eldorado canyon with most of the other areas in the shadow of clouds.
This is from Weds. night. I really had a lot of fun with this.

You saw the plein air study for this last week. I tried to finish this studio version today. The jury's out on whether I like it or not. I'm not sure it is capturing the light the way I remember. Oh well...

slow week

I didn't have much energy this week, so I only painted Weds. night and today. This is from Weds. night. I am pretty happy with it.

This is my second painting this morning, we are looking down at Eldorado Canyon, through Walker Ranch.

Sharon and I met early this morning in Coal Creek Canyon. I see this every morning on my way to work. I have been wanting to try to paint it at this time of day for a long time. Finally I got my chance this morning. It turned out to be very challenging. The magic moment of light was gone inside an hour. I took some photos and am trying again in my studio.
